Well it seems there could be a number of things going on.

Could it be that she missed some feedings during the busy weekend of
parties? This possibly led to a cascade of events including mastitis
which supposedly can make the milk taste salty (weaning milk) and baby
begins the strike. Mother admits to stress. Could that be explored
more? I leap to the assumption that maybe father is not helping as
much, is father or other family member putting some pressure on mother
to wean? What other stressors? Is she in USA where the children who
have been at school are now home for the summer, totally changing
the dynamics of the household? What is the sleep arrangement? Does
mother get any sleep? Does baby feed at nite?

Mother's period has returned. Somewhere in our archives (or someone
can chime in) this has been discussed as associated with lower milk
supply and treated I believe with calcium/magnesium. I also recall Dr.
Jack Newman commenting years ago about it not being that unusual to
see a lowering of milk supply for no real apparent reason at 4 months
and treated with galactagogues. I am not sure mother's milk tea (have
seen different concoctions called this) will work, but I do believe in
galactagogues like domperidone or More Milk Plus by Motherlove.

Is there a way for mother to enlist some help and have as much of a
'babymoon' as she can? Or babywearing? She can supplement if
absolutely necessary (and
this is a slippery slope) with cup or lactation aid, because the
bottles are dangerous for a nursing relationship under these
circumstances, in my
humble opinion.

I do think she can turn this around and I would be giving her that
message, very strongly.
