Hi Jaye,

Absolutely do not forward the emails. Do you work at this hospital or are you a private consultant?

If you work there, I believe you should attend the mtg. From the info that you gave, it seems the hospital staff

involved are not as familiar, nor comfortable, with the idea of milk sharing, same sex couples, etc. You could

enlighten them. I would attend the mtg with an open mind, and probably bring something from the pt bill of rights,

and/or the hospital's mission or vision, which usually has a statement to the effect that patients have the right to

participate in decisions, be given info on alternate treatments, respect for individual, value of diversity, innovation,

exceed expectations, etc. I would emphasize that the patient (birth mom) is on board with the feeding plan.

If you are not employed by the hospital, then you have no obligation to attend the mtg (or do you have privileges

that could be revoked, or are you hired privately by the couple?). Then I would definitely state that you cannot

discuss privileged client info, unless the client herself was contacted by the hospital, asked to participate in

a mtg, and agreed to invite you as well. You see the difference of course.

Now, please take this as constructive. The info that you have shared on lactnet, while not stating the pt name

directly, is enough info to identify that person, probably, and would be a HIPAA violation. If the hospital sent

you an email and sent out the pt name, without pt permission, I believe that is a violation as well, and should be

pointed out to them.
