Henya,
I'm not at work, but we give valtrex even with mom breastfeeding a
newborn. It should be listed in Hale's book or via his Infant Risk
Center or lactmed (?) website as having a good safety rating for bf.
The infant should be safe if mother has covered her lesions and uses
good handwashing.
I don't understand about her neurological condition (you said it is
precarious), but otherwise I don't see a problem.
