Lynda,

Mothers who are breastfeeding an older baby during pregnancy have their milk
revert to colostrum at delivery. So I would be optimistic that this will
happen with this mother, too. In any case, any lactational fluid that comes
from the breast will provide optimal nutrition for the baby and protective
factors - which are lacking is any artificial foods marketed for babies.

This mother needs reassurance not to worry about this and start
breastfeeding early, like any mother and baby. What her baby gets will be
just right.

Hi Lactnetters all over the world

I have permission to post. A mom who breastfed her 1st baby is now 37 wks
with baby no 2. She has had colostrum for a few weeks already but now is
leaking milk +++She is due for an elective Caesarean section scheduled at 38
weeks. Will this milk revert to colostrum for the baby once the placenta is
out or will the new baby miss out on it?

Hope someone out there has experience with this.

Thanks Lynda Lilienfeld RN. RM. IBCLC
