Actually, the same herbs that support milk supply support digestion--a reminder that milk supply/quality/composition and gut health and intricately connected.
Since mom is struggling with milk supply, herbal galactogogues would be a must, IMO anyway. Still, I have to ask why baby is on soy. An atrocious
option, by most standards. Donor milk would be a far better option.

Hello,
Here is an interesting question posed by one of my clients (permission to post):
A new mother is breastfeeding after reduction surgery which was done about 5 years ago. Her left breast isn't producing any breastmilk, but her right breast is producing about 1 1/2 ounces at each feeding (she is thrilled to be able to lactate at all!). She is supplementing with soy which is making her baby very constipated. She has been given lots of advice about what to give her one month old baby. She knows some of this advice could even be dangerous (baby prune juice, Miralax, water, and even Karo syrup).

Her question for me, "Do you have any information on how I can change my diet to help with his constipation since he is getting some breastmilk?" Hmmmm, I have never had anyone ask this question. Do any of you have information on foods that cross into breastmilk which might help with constipation without giving anything additional to this infant?
Thank you in advance,
Marie Ivey, BSN, RN, LCCE, CLC
