A big THANK YOU to all who have responded to my inquiry. And yes, Nancy, my supervisor is an IBCLC. I am the newbie of the group. And you would be amazed at the amount of breast pumps that are "prescribed" to healthy, term mothers who are not having issues. If insurance covers it, they get it. So then my point, what of the mothers who don't have this coverage and can't get a pump? I see more colostrum lost (and frustrated mothers) using the pump to get milk, when simple hand expression would make more sense. And working with preemies, I do understand the need for stimulation, but using the two is better. But for those who don't need a pump, or do not need to go back to work, do they really need that piece of equpiment "just in case"? That is what I am up against. Again, thanks to everyone - you are the best!!!! Brenda Enfield RN IBCLC
