Liz,

I am so glad to see that someone is questioning the frequent use of this. I see containers of sucrose in baby's cribs so the parents can dip the pacifier in it. I do wish that someone would write a paper about it's use. I suspect it is not good for babies, but like you I don't have any evidence.

ubject: Sucrose solution overuse
I am a LC in a hospital where staff use the 24% sucrose to hold off babies at 
ight and the professional baby photo company was using it for picture taking.  
y manager wants me to write a clinical moment that is evidence based on why 
his should not happen.  I can find research on using it for painful procedures 
ut am not having any luck with side effects, diminished effectiveness or other 
ssues with overuse.  Any references would be helpful.  Please email them to me
