This is way off topic now so Jane (or anyone else who wishes to carry the 
conversation further) you might like to contact me for more information. The 
impact of institutionalisation on children is part of my area of expertise. 
You will not find any large reputable aid organisation supporting the 
building of orphanages because institutional care is inherently neglectful 
(and also often abusive) regardless of the intent of those running such 
places. There are better models that keep children within their communities 
and families.   People who set up orphanages almost universally mean well, 
just like those who send donations of infant formula to emergency sites- 
they know not what harm they do.
