It seems to me that we have since a wonderful decrease in engorgement since
we began our skin to skin/golden hour initiative - and lots more moms
pleasantly surprised with "milk in" by 48 hours. (Our 30% cesarean and <10%
epidural rate surely helps - don't flame me I know that's too many cesareans
but from what I hear I have reason to be thankful.)

The worst case of engorgement I've ever seen was a woman who I really
thought looked like she would burst from the pressure. Her second breastfed
baby....and several years later she waged a valiant and victorious battle
against premenopausal breast cancer. Made me wonder if there was a
connection - was she already having changes in her breasts? Were they not
draining properly?

As Rachel says, lots of work still to be done, my pioneers!

Dawn Kersula in Vermont - who needs to get cracking and finish writing the
Christmas Eve service for tomorrow!
