One difficulty is that once this diagnosis of 'colic' has been given, the
diagnoser may add stuff like 'so it's important not to feed more often than
x hourly/longer than y minutes, as this makes colic worse' or something
equally fatuous.

~~ The other sad thing is once the doc labels the baby colicky, everyone
stops looking to help the baby, who may be underfed, may be having painful
reflux, esp. silent reflux episodes, or may be a normal baby who is smart
enough to know that being whipped off the breast and swaddled into a stupor
within seconds of not showing a SSB pattern that means lots of milk is moving
is just not a good thing, and they protest. Local moms are told that of
course baby's cry and they have "digestive troubles at this age" but it will
pass if you just let them cry for a few weeks...

Peace,
