Oh, no! Not the 'window of opportunity' again! Please check the archives for a fairly heated discussion of this (if I recall correctly)

This topic comes up on a regular basis. Here is a post from biological/nutritional Anthropologis Kathrine Dettwyler answering someone elses question about this from July1, 2001:

About when you *need* to start solids, someone wrote:

This is a very persistent MYTH. It has been covered at length in the
archives. There was ONE STUDY, done years ago, on MENTALLY RETARDED
children, with a sample size of NINE. There is NO RESEARCH that suggests a
"window of opportunity" exists for introducing solids to children. Around
the world, there is a huge range of variation in when children start solids,
both within and between cultures. In some places, they start solids as
early as a few weeks, in others, children are not routinely given solids til
8-10 months.

O.K. Jamelle here again. Please check the archives, as you will see how often this comes up. The above post from 2001 says it has been covered at length in the archives. Since then, it has been covered even more.
