Dear friends,
This woman may face 5 years in prison. Who will benefit from that? Who will be better off?
Not the woman herself, for she will be put in the influence of real criminals. If she learns anything there, it is not to become a better person or a better mom. Not the child, who will probably end up in ''the system'' and not very much good ever comes from that. Not the society, because taxpayers will have to pay for the woman's stay and the child's care.
Nursing under influence of alcohol is said to be prohibited for the good of the child. Is this child better of with a mom in jail or with an incidental breastmilk-cocktail from a loving mom who will probably be caring well for her at all other times?
I even can see some harrasment of universal child rights in putting mom inj ail and preventing the child from breastfeeding.

Warmly,

Gonneke, IBCLC, MOM, in southern Netherlands
