Did y'all actually go look at the link?  It's quite nice.  There's nothing between mom and baby.  It's only the viewer's viewpoint which is obstructed. Mom and baby have complete access, skin and sight-lines, as mom wants.

Debbi Heffern, who used to make similar baby bonnets out of 6" wide eyelet lace.
