I thought the very same thing. The first time I read about this, I had to dig
into the article to determine that it really was baby formula they were talking
about. It amazes and horrifies me that the formula companies have somehow
achieved a status of unquestionability (not a word, I know!). You can read
headlines about mothers killing babies, about babies becoming strangled in
cribs, all sorts of gruesome things that occur to babies you can read about in
news headlines, so it isn't that the news industry has determined that we as a
society are somehow too sensitive to read headlines about babies being
killed. Yet, somehow, nobody is brave enough to put a simple
sentence 'babies killed by tainted formula' into newsprint. One could argue
that there would be a desire to prevent a mass hysteria, but I can guarantee
you if any other food product were tainted, perhaps a favorite breakfast
cereal, we'd read all about it.
It just makes me wonder how formula has gotten into this safe, protected
zone.
