According to this article, new standards have been set for "safety." As long
as the melamine is not accompanied by cyanuric acid, it is considered
"safe." No new studies have been done, however, since the FDA reported they
could not set a safe limit.

<<WASHINGTON - Less than two months after federal food regulators said they
were unable to set a safety threshold for the industrial chemical melamine
in baby formula, they announced a standard that allows for higher levels
than those found in U.S.-made batches of the product.>>
