Hi All
I have been asked by a mum who is pumping for her baby in special care for
advice. Baby was born at 34 weeks and is now 8 days old and occassionaly
going to the breast
Mum has been pumping 3 hourly through the day and 4 hourly overnight, but
what she is finding is she only get let downs for about 10 minutes. She then
takes the pump off massages her breast for a few minutes then put the pump
back on and gets another let down, then it stops so she massages and puts
the pump back on, but if she keeps the pump on she stops flowing around the
10 minute mark. By the time she gets 60 mls of expressed milk it can be up
to 40 - 50 minutes have gone past, she is getting exhausted and concerned
that this is how it will be
Has anyone come across this before and what other things could this mum do,
she has a photograph of her baby beside her when she is pumping, using some
calming techniques , visits baby for feeding then comes back to the unit to
use the pump.
Sincerely
June Nicholls
