Hello all,

Sorry for the delay in my response, but upcoming graduation
festivities have been taking most of my time. I want to thank
everyone who responded to my request. I believe that it was the
quote from Gabrielle Palmer that I was thinking of, but seeing the
other quotes has made me realized that I have actually jumbled them
together in my head! I really appreciate everyone's time.

I also wanted to respond to seeing breastfeeding as normal. We
hosted a party at our home a few weeks ago. A friend attended with
his 18 month old baby. The baby was really not a happy camper. I
was watching the reaction of my 15 year old son. He was getting
quite upset. He turned to me and matter of factly said, "Mom, can't
you take the baby! You always had a way of calming babies." I
looked at him and said, "yes, but I no longer have what calms babies
easiest." He looked at me, then the light bulb went off and he
smiled realizing.

One more thing....as to abuse and breastfeeding. I think as we all
have seen, culture obviously plays a big role in parenting. My
husband was raised in a breastfeeding culture (Vietnamese), but he
also had a very harsh upbringing. It would be considered major child
abuse in the United States how he was raised. He was breastfed for
18 months. Longer than most, as most moms in the area my husband was
from abruptly weaned at one year fearing that their milk was no
longer any good. My mother-in-law did this 8 times! It is
interesting to note, that my mother-in-law has told my husband that
she feels how they raised their kids was not good, and is sorry.
Anytime my husband takes a harsh tone with the kids, she is right
there scolding him.

Regards,
Gloria Thai, Va
