Susan and colleagues,
Yesterday I was on a panel speaking to high school students who are
interested in health care careers, wearing my "nurse specialist" hat. I
brought with me a copy of the flyer for Kathy Kendall Tackett's sleep study,
an Art of Breastfeeding Gallery Walk poster, and a copy of the flyer we're
developing for Vermont's new law - "Vermont Workplaces Support Working
Moms." Because that's a part of my job - think globally, act locally!
One of the problems with so many surveys is that they only allow one answer,
and so many of us are "Other!!" I know I'm a little bit of an oddity
(LLLL>LCCE>IBCLC>RN>MA) but I think there are quite a few of us that have
taken a path something like this, so at least I'm an oddity in good company.
I'm preparing for some all-day workshops for nurses (my 20 year goal, in
sight!!) and woven into the entire presentation is advocacy and activism and
FUN -- if all your ever see is breastfeeding challenges in the hospital, it
sure looks like a long career of depressing work!
Dawn Kersula in Vermont, wondering again about those statistics (and able to
READ them after all this education, by golly!)
