Ann -

I hope for a safe journey and positive outcome for you all. Two of my sons
had moderate to severe tongue-ties. The other two have the heart shaped tip,
however, had very stretchy frenulums causing no issues.

My first son lost 1 pound and 15 ounces post delivery and it was discovered
at two weeks of age. It was very scary. I found a fabulous IBCLC who
helped us get him gaining and out of the hospital. I used old faithful
lactina and SNS system. I believe we only needed to use a couple of small
bottles of formula to supplement. I know I am an oddity to have a huge milk
supply with a baby who is starving at the breast. His tongue was clipped
at 6 weeks (long story why the wait) and he was exclusively on breast
immediately.

My fourth son we knew he had a tongue-tie but the ped and nurses at the
hospital wouldn't listen - he was thriving and gaining great though I was in
terrific pain and had to do breast compression all the time and start him on
one breast to let-down and move him to second breast for the full feed. It
was the only way he wouldn't tire out. So we finally were able to get his
tongue clipped at just under three months of age because he was thriving. I
wasn't though with continual clogged ducts and soreness. My breasts were
well massaged. I never could get his suck fully re-trained so to speak and
though he had more mobility with his tongue he was too set in his ways. I
no longer had nipple pain, but I had to be VERY diligent not to get clogged
ducts. I always did compression during feeds even after a ear old. We
never did bottles or pumping. I guess being my fourth I just figured it
out.

I hope this works out well for you all and if you do desire little one to
come to the breast it will happen!!!
