I believe that, according to Kathleen Dettweiler's research (I think it's her research) the wordwide average age of weaning is quite broad:  2.5 - y years of age.   Due to the absolutely ridiculously short maternity leave in the US, I would guess that babies are weaned around 3 - 6 months and it would be longer in Canada b/c of the 1 year maternity leave that most mothers get so I would guess maybe about 1 year in Canada and in the rest of the world, probably considerably longer.  This is just my guess - not evidence based at all.
