This whole subject is giving me more questions than answers!

Glucocorticoids also compete with progesterones for receptors. Chronic
increased levels of stress increase glucocorticoids, which interferes with
"normal body functions." Cushings disease is a possibility, it is often
mistaken for PCOS. Dopamine is a competitor for the prolactin receptors.
Prolactin and dopamine levels are usually inverse of each other. Excessive
dopamine can cause delusions and other mental issues. Who knows if "just a
bit" is too much for a mother, or if her prolactin is at a level high enough
to kick dopamine off the receptors?

I wish I was better able to read journals, and understand so much more.
Seems like the more I read, the more questions I have!!

Best wishes, and off to tanning hides with my 4H kids...

How often (or is it necessary) are these moms (with inexplicable low supply
issues) referred to an endocrinologist for a blood test or whatever? Or are
those levels of HPL and progesterone and all of those other *nasty,
interfering, antagonistic* (with reference to lactation of course) hormones,
etc. done by a blood test at their doctor's office?>>
