When I was pregnant with my second child, _every_single_woman_ in my
playgroup had had an unplanned cesarean. It was very, very hard to
emotionally "permit" them to have made their own choices and not feel
almost guilty about mine (2 uncomplicated homebirths) while we all
waited silently for my due date.

It's like when we feel guilty-ish (anybody have a better word) for
having smooth breastfeeding experiences where others have hurdles.
Sometimes it's related to choices and sometimes it seems to be the luck
of the draw.

At our birth group, when moms initially introduce themselves, we are
able to predict pretty easily who will need significant extra
postpartum support. It also gives me a very strong clue as to who will
be calling me for breastfeeding help, so at least I can establish a
relationship prenatally so they don't hesitate to call after the birth.
