I have been a midwife for 19 years, and every hospital I've worked at has
had a rest period (as we call it). Rural/ urban, public /private.

No visitors, usually including partners, no docs, cleaners, social workers,
routine checks etc. Lights go out, no phone calls put through to the bedside
gate pass discouraged during this time, doors to the ward closed, etc etc.

The women greatly appreciate it, after being up feeding, and all that a busy
morning in a maternity unit entails. It sets the example of resting when you
can, even organising yourself to get a rest.

It rarely is a problem, rest periods are the expected thing between 1 and 3.

Of course sometimes the babies feed then, but that's okay as there is no
other distraction and a great teaching time.
