Just my thoughts on this subject;

Considering that the rate of Diabetes in the US is now skyrocketing, the
same argument could be made for just teaching every person to test their blood
levels and inject themselves.... after all, chances are many of them will need
this information... and if they already have these skills , we don't have to
be responsible for teaching them how to avoid Diabetes, or worry about how
many of them will or will not eat a healthy diet even though we KNOW that they
KNOW .... after all, it is so much more convenient to eat less healthy foods
when I return to work, and all my friends eat those foods, and they turned
out OK....

IMHO, group health teaching is seldom effective. By providing health
teaching one on one, you are making an unspoken statement about how important and
valuable the information is. If a healthcare provider takes the time to teach
ME one on one, how to properly prepare formula and/or to properly feed my baby
with a bottle, it makes a big statement.... chances are the HCP will spend
more time with me doing this than they spend with me at my annual exam... it
must be really important... I should really pay attention and ask my questions
now... In fact, I should probably also get a contact name and number, in case
I have questions when I get home....

How many classes do you offer on j-tube care, ostomy care, catheter care, or
other medically invasive procedures/devices? My guess is that you teach this
one-on-one and allow the parents/caretakers to practice, supervised, before
sending them on home with all this equipment and the accompanying rules.
