2007/7/25, Gordon Patricia (DHSS) <[log in to unmask]>:
# but I keep wondering why, with these new hi-tech ultrasounds being
done on fetuses that show such great detail, can we not utilize that
technology (or any other technology without radiation) for routine
breast screening? #
I suspect this is up to the doctor/radiologist. I have very dense
breast tissue with lots of connective tissue, with dozens of liquid
filled cysts, and have been told that ultrasound is the only way to
detect the potential suspicious changes in my case, since the
mammogram wouldn't be specific enough (wouldn't show clearly enough if
there is normal connective tissue or a mass or e.g. a scar, they would
all look about the same). I have been recommended an annual ultrasound
check-up, and to forget about mammograms. With those new u/s equipment
the view is getting better and better qualified, and with an u/s the
tissue can be seen from different angles.
