Thanks for those wise words of wisdom everyone.....now I find I only have 9
days - instead of 16!!! ;-))
Of course we all know these sorts of strategies but it's nice to have the
wise ones tell us again and again and to tell us to be confident in what you
already know.
One of the facilitators of an online course I'm doing also posed these three
questions...
Have you covered (at least read) the material the IBLCE said they would
examine in their blueprint?
Are you able to apply what you learn to the mother and baby in front of you?
Are mothers and babies helped by your knowledge and skill and ability to
think about their problem?
She said if you can answer yes to these questions you will do fine!!
I also will be doing a dry run to test the traffic time, the parking and
finding the exam room over the next two weeks (I guess that doesn't count
Linda?) while my children are on school holidays - this will do well to ease
my anxiety of getting lost or running late. At least I know there is plenty
of time in the exam and that you are allowed in late in the first 90 minutes
(but not given extra time).
Are there lots of us on Lactnet sitting for the first time or resitting in
just over 2 weeks?

Subject: LC test anxiety
OK, here's the Coach's tips on managing pre-test anxiety:
1. If you haven't already done so, attend a meeting of a local
mother-support group (LLL, ABA etc). Do this even if you come from a
mother-support background. Go to a new group, NOT one you already work with.
This is especially important if you mostly work with very young babies.
2. SKIM one lactation textbook or the Core Curriculum quickly, like in
a few hours. Read the chapter headings or review questions. If anything
seems REALLY unfamiliar, go read up on that topic for a few hours. Do not
attempt to memorize anything new!
3. During the week beginning July 23, PUT AWAY YOUR BOOKS and go on a
vacation. Or clean your garage, practice guitar, back up your computer, take
up knitting or karate, try a new zucchini recipe, read the new Harry Potter
book, attend a folk-music concert, go fly-fishing - ANYTHING EXCEPT spend
more time on lactation study. Let whatever you've learned so far move to the
back corner of your brain and stew a while. In other words, gain some
perspective.
4. During the weekend before the exam, DO NOT OPEN A BOOK on lactation.
DO NOT CRAM - it will only increase your anxiety and cause you to make
stupid mistakes. If you haven't learned some concept by now, you're not
going to learn it overnight.
5. After the exam, allow yourself to obsess till about 8 pm (while
maintaining confidentiality of the exam) then go have a nice soak in a hot
tub or some other comforting activity. Ice cream is medicinal; so is good
chocolate.
