Just a quick heads up on several new breastfeeding?items from the CDC.

Marsha Walker, RN, IBCLC
Weston, MA
---------------------------------------

The CDC has?released several items today on the CDC website. If you go to http://www.cdc.gov you'll see us at the top and can click to get to the information, or you can go directly to http://www.cdc.gov/Features/Breastfeeding/ which will get you to all of the content.

The items on our spotlight are:

The new NIS breastfeeding data.? Not only are they new this year but this is the first time we have released birth cohort data, so instead of reporting by the year the data were collected (as we did in the past), we have released data for infants born in 2004.? We hope to have trend data back to 2000 up within the next few weeks.? There is more detail about this on the website.

The Breastfeeding Report Card.

A summary of the science supporting the relationship between breastfeeding and prevention of pediatric overweight that is part of what we've called the Research to Practice (or R2P) series

A crib card that can be downloaded with benefits of and tips on breastfeeding.

The 2008 CDC Yellow Book (on Traveler's Health) including the new Breastfeeding Chapter
