Does the mother have a history of any eye problems? For example, I
know two women who were treated for strabismus in childhood and now,
many years after the problem seemed solved, they're experiencing
double vision and eye fatigue but no eye crossing or drifting. (If
childhood strabismus and/or amblyopia is a factor, the mom might
consider a consultation with a pediatric ophthalmologist.)

Another possibility is ocular migraines. Migraine headaches and
vestibular migraines can be triggered by homonal fluctuations; ocular
ones probably can be as well.

Is there any pattern to the mom's vision problems?

Good luck to her.

regards,
Julia
