Norma says:

<<The problem is that they insist on retaining the copyright to my work.
This makes me nervous, as we all know what can happen when even the
most trusted companies are bought and sold. In addition, of course, I
understand that the IBCLE requires me to retain complete control.
I am looking for ways to satisfy both the IBCLE and the newspaper>>

Norma, I'm not sure I understand what you mean about IBLCE requiring you to
retain complete control. No one who writes for publication retains complete
control -- the copyright always belongs to the publisher, be it Jones &
Bartlett, Mosby, Doubleday, or Pocket Books. The IBLCE cannot require this of
anyone. So from that perspective you are free to write your column for the
newspaper. You may be able to state in your contract with them that they will
not have your column juxtaposed by advertisements for anything that violates
the WHO Code, and/or they will not sell your pieces to a formula company for
use in their own publications -- as we know has happened on more than one
occasion.
