While he starts off great by stating that all babies should be breastfed for
at least the first 6 months, I'd like to know his references for this
outrageously deceptive statement:

"Dr. Sazawal: Mothers can breastfeed their children for as long as possible,
but introduction of other sources of nutrition after six months is a must.
Breastmilk will no longer be sufficient at this point. The amount of
breastmilk goes down as the lactation period increases, no matter what the
mother takes.

Breastmilk production is driven by hormones from the pregnancy, so if you
are no longer pregnant, the production starts to slow down. But the volume
of milk that the child needs is still increasing. A mother's breastmilk
production may not be able to keep up with the increase in the amount of her
child's breastmilk consumption."

If mother's around the world heard this and believed it the worldwide
breastfeeding rates would probably plummet, while the formula company and
Dr's profits would rise. Moms already have enough garbage out there telling
them they can't provide enough for their babies - their milk dries up
overnight at 6 wks - breastmilk suddenly turns into a useless liquid at 6
months/12 months - we've heard them all. Now this?? As my kids would say:
WTF? This really makes me mad!

The simple fact is that the milk supply doesn't diminish simply due to a
timeline as suggested above. It goes up and down according to babies needs
and demands. I have worked with too many moms who have breastfed nearly
exclusively until 12 months because their babies refused solids (usually due
to unknown food allergies) until they were ready. NONE of them needed
supplementation with these fortified formulas.

OK - I'm heading for coffee. Stuff like this just reinforces my reasons for
being out here in the trenches working with moms. Someone out there has to
be able to refute garbage like this because you know it is going to be
mentioned - just like the brain bleeds.give me a break! Whatever happened
to responsible, ethical studies and honest journalism??? Oh yeah - that
dried up overnight at 6 wks too.

Jaye

Who woke up with a headache this morning.and it just got worse.
