This is mostly a great idea-kind of a step back toward the days when maternity units had just two 1-hour general visiting hour periods per day. The only problem is that the babies won't "know" when the nap time is! I hope moms aren't discouraged from nursing baby during that time if baby needs it or even keeping baby s-t-s during that time. Also, I hope this doesn't lead to encouraging lots of visitors the other times. It can be a mixed bag. I remember one of the challenges for nurses when there were liimited visiting hours was that we turned into a sort of "visitor cop" often checking whether or not someone was "immediate family" and even not having a true definition of what that meant.

What will help the most is educating families, friends, and the general public that moms and babies need quiet time together in those first days and that visiting can wait.
