I want to give thanks for the State of Vermont WIC programs, which along
with being breastfeeding proactive also provide coupons for Farmers Markets
here in the state. We are struggling desperately to keep our small family
farms, and local farmers markets have sprung up all over.
The Healthy Kids initiative to combat obesity has included postcards with
wonderful pix of local fresh veggies and easy, kid-friendly ways to fix
them.
Locally, the Brattleboro Co-op has been offering tours for young mothers.
When the tour is over, the moms get a bag full of healthy food items. This
has been in conjunction with our Success by Six programs at Early Education
Services. And the Co-op's registered dietician has been paid to come do
"Starting Solids" programs at my New Moms Network at the hospital.
I also include Nutrition in my first Lamaze class every series. It feels
deadly dull sometimes (yes, I'm still trying new methods!), but VERY often
moms will says, "What did you do to us? Now he asks me all the time whether
I've eaten anything yellow, and if I got enough protein today!" The power of
family.

Dawn Kersula...goofing off in Vermont where we are glad to see some nice
fluffy snow falling from the sky!
