Works a treat for constipated formula fed babies.  (Don't ask about health
consequences!)  Since the AAP and the WHO recommend *exclusive*
breastfeeding for around six months(Perhaps said ped needs to be reminded of
his own professional body's position?), would you not ask the paediatrician
to produce evidence to support *his* recommendation?
It is not unusual for babies over a month old to go a week or nine days
between poos. (I knew one who pooed at nine am every Wednesday morning for
five months.  Mum took off her nappy and layed her on a towel at five to
nine and cleaned up at half past!!) 
If every thing else looks OK (and perhaps there is some other reason they
are in a paed's office), if there are 5 heavy wet disposable nappies
(one-use diapers is what I believe they are called in the US) in twenty four
hours, periods of contented alertness, normal skin tone, reaching milestones
etc, I'd be offering reassurance and re-educating the professional ...
Impatient with those whose only infant feeding ed comes from industry today
...
