Hi Everyone,
I know pacifiers are not recommended, and I heartily explain the rationale to all moms and staff on the unit I work, however I need to elicit some of the Lactnetters imput here. We stock pacifiers on our unit supply cart...for bottle feeding babies mostly, but on occasion we are unable to convince a BF mom that a pacifier should be delayed/avoided. At one time I thought I saw/read/heard, whatever that the 'nuk' pacifier was less desirable to use for breastfeeding since the wedge shape contributed to 'wedging' of the breast nipple...did I dream this? I looked in the archives but didn't find this issue. Does anyone have a reference, or opinion on this? For those of you on OB units, that also have pacifiers-what kind are you supplying to your 'unable to convince' moms, that 'demand' a pacifier?
Thanks ahead of time
Lucy
