Judy,

I absolutely think that hands-free bustier can contribute to plugged ducts.
Have you seen one up close? I have had to be very careful about the bras I
wear in my avoidance of plugged ducts and mastitis. I'm quite sure the
hands-free pumping bras you mention would have given me trouble. The
construction that makes it "hands-free" exerts a great deal of support under
and around the breast. Just as other methods of putting extended pressure
on the breasts can result in plugged ducts (lying tummy-down, certain baby
carriers or bags, sports bras, etc.) that bustier may cause problems. I'd
suggest she leave it off when she isn't pumping.

For awhile postpartum, I really couldn't wear ANY bra for more than a few
hours. I'm large-breasted, but was able to hang out around the house
braless. In the very early (leaky) weeks, I just tucked a folded-up towel
under my breasts to catch any leaks, and I left lots of towels around the
house, too.

Hope this helps,
Diana in NY
