I would not assume that a negative culture means no Candida. There is a 
wonderful article in the Journal for Nurse Practioners called Infections 
of the Mammary Ducts in the Breastfeeding Mother (July 2005) which 
describes the proper procedure for and difficulties inherent in culturing 
breast milk, due to its antimicrobial properties. There are very concrete 
suggestions such as the addition of ferrous sulfate to reduce the 
incidence of false negs. when culturing for yeast.
