Formula milk withdrawn over bacteria scare

http://www.cyprus-mail.com/news/main.php?id=28387&cat_id=1
Cyprus Mail - Nicosia,Cyprus

THE HEALTH Ministry has ordered the withdrawal of a batch of milk-based powdered infant formula from the market after routine inspections found traces of a potentially life-threatening bacterium.

Sanilac 1, produced and manufactured in Denmark for Greek foodstuffs company Jotis, was immediately withdrawn on Tuesday after the state lab found traces of Enterobacter sakazakii, a rare cause of invasive infection with high death rates in newborns, which is not in line with EU microbiological quality regulations.

(Interesting, for information about E. sakazakii, the article references the Health Canada website.)
