I had to write about the extended feeding issue. Am getting ready to go to
one of our granddaughters first birthday party. Her Mommy and Daddy have
made the choice along with her to continue breastfeeding; though Mommy now
wishes that she had gotten her use to doing some uncosleeping so she could get
some housework done or take 5 minutes for herself with out little Missy missing
her. How much longer will she continue I have always told her is her choice.
The other Gram is even more eager for an extended time since she bf for
nearly 5 years.
But with everyone together and hearing my one daughter and son-in-law's
comments about how ridiculous it is and how different the parenting styles are I
have had to repeat more than twice. "It's their choice!" Just as it is that
her sister makes her own baby food, chooses not to let her baby taste milk
products, french fries, not be near smokers and not get her ears pierced. Yes,
she may mellow with other children but she has to live with herself and her
husband who is more adamant. She has the luxury of staying home, she lives
prudently, has a spouse that supports them nicely. Frankly, I am very
thrilled she is living this wonderful experience. I think sometimes the other two
daughters, one who bf for 5 months both of her children and the more verbal
older one who bf 4 months may be a little jealous because their life style
require them to work. I often feel that our society places so much value on
having stuff and needing to be the working woman that we truly neglect the joy
of mothering. This quick fix society often overlooks the fact that tried and
true offers us time to savor the things in life we might buzz by because we
are too busy doing all the things we think we need to live.
So though I might not approve of the message in general of the Sopranos, I
do approve of the secondary message of this character's life choices.
So must get going to the PARTY! What happened to just plain old birthday
cake and ice cream? Fortunately, its a gorgeous day for a party outside.
