Subject: colostrum for premature infants
I work in a busy NICU with a high rate of breastfeeding mothers. I know =
that some nicu are using colostrum for a mouth wash or swab in the =
infants that are not being fed. Two of our neonatologist have allowed me =
to do this with several babies but they would like to have some protocol =
or evidence based research. It is difficult to find any thing written. =
If you know of any literature, or you do this and have some type of =
policy could this be shared with me? I would love to here what other =
units are doing.
There is no published research. There is also no published research on using
lemon-glycerin swabs for premie mouth care (which everyone does). We do it
when I remember to write the order. In my spare time I need to do a study!
