Aside from whatever concerns pump vendors have about getting spare parts
from Avent, one might wish to consider the fact that Avent is regarded by
watchdog organizations as a non-WHO code compliant company, for their
inappropriate marketing of teats and feeding bottles.  I guess in the US
this is not as obvious since the WHO code has never made much of an impact,
but for those of us in other countries it is blatantly obvious that Avent as
a company is much more concerned with selling bottles and pacifiers than
with helping mothers with breastfeeding.
The illustrations on their so-called informational materials are dreadful
and show babies purportedly breastfeeding who are definitely not
breastfeeding, only posing in a woman's arms.  The materials claim that
Avent teats mimic the breast in form and function and make it easy to switch
between breast and bottle from the start.
As one who has been privy to a meeting between point-of-sale staff and an
Avent representative telling them how to maximize sales, I have a difficult
time recommending their products at all, even though the pump is perfectly
OK as a manually operated pump for women who occasionally need to express
milk.
In Norway they also market their nipple shields without instructions for
care or use.  Appalling.  Used correctly they are fine for the women whose
nipples fit them, but how often does that happen without instructions?  In
my experience, never - and I see the bad outcomes in clinic.
