Hello everyone, I am a student from the University of Nevada, Reno posting
to the list as part of a class assignment for Nursing Theory. I have
searched the archives and have yet to find a match to a patient I worked
with along with the lactation consultant during my clinical rotation. The
situation is as follows: I encountered a woman who had her nipples pierced
for a short while(a few months) and upon finding out she was pregnant,
decided to remove them for future feeding. The holes all appeared closed,
but the baby is now a month old and fussing badly at the left breast. The
L.C. discovered a small opening on one side of the nipple left from the
piercing, which milk was pouring out of upon let down. The infant was
unhappy at the breast, and mom was beginning to become frustrated as well.
All I have found are past posts regarding this topic from a few years back,
all stating the prior piercing had no adverse effects of feeding. Is there
anyone out there who has run into these problems more recently, and what
was/can be done about it?
Thanks for any input
Lora Carlson
