Does anyone know if Shepards Purse is compatible with breastfeeding? Dr.
Hale is not accepting questions on his website right now. The baby of the
mother in question is 2 weeks old.

Chayn,

Shepard's Purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) is a blood coagulant and
vasoconstrictor that is "a specific simple for post partum hemorrhage...stops bleeding
but also promotes uterine contractions." quoted from Susun Weed's Wise Woman
Herbal, the Childbearing Years. I would wonder why a 2 week pp mom would be
taking this herb, unless under her health care provider's supervision. Sheila
Humphrey, in her book, Nursing Mother's Herbal, lists Shepard's purse as a B,
which means it has a safety rating that " may not be appropriate for self-use
by some individuals or dyads, or may cause adverse effects if misused. Seek
reliable safety and dose information." Perhaps, one of the herbalists on
this list could also reply.
