Hello,

Today was skills day and I had a 2 hour time slot to talk to all of the
nurses. I showed The "Amazing Talents" video and the "Self Attachment"
video. I was excited to hear them actually entertain the idea of allowing
babies to be skin-to-skin until the first feed. Of course the logistics of
the whole thing get in the way and changing the way things are done is not
always easy. I want to keep the momentum going! For those of you that do
skin-to-skin until after the first feed, I would like to pick your brain.

It is reccomended to wait until after the first feed to do routine stuff,
but I need more detail for the nurses instead of just telling them to wait.
They were thinking that everything needed to be done by an hour of age,
some thought it was 6-8 hours. What is your routine and how do you meet
all of your charting "requirements" and such? When do you give the first
bath? I would just like to give the nurses some examples of what others do.

Thanks!!

Christine Lichte, IBCLC, LLL Leader
