LOL! Marsha, the only reason I have such a detailed baby book is that I
am the oldest... and my baby book is only detailed for the first 15 months
of my life. That's when my sister was born. Then my brother was born 24
months later, next sister was born 19 months later, next sister was born
31 months later. Not quite as impressive as your mom's record, but that's
5 kids in 7.5 years. What really blows my mind about it is realizing that
my mother was not quite 19 when I was born and only 26 when the last child
was born.
All of these pregnancies were "accidents" so I guess there were spans of
time when the condoms, foam, etc. worked. My mother has told me privately
that I would probably have been an only child if oral contraceptives had
been available back then. :/ And I will tell you quite honestly that I
think having all of us kids was a real strain on my mother's mental
health. I know that I used to say the one thing I learned from her was
that I did NOT want to have five children in 7.5 years! ;)
And, by the way, Similac was introduced in 1925 in powder form, although
it had some other name then. The name was changed to Similac ("SIMIlar to
LACtation" - yeah right) in 1927. Similac liquid concentrate was
introduced in 1951. I researched all this formula history when I found
out what we were fed... but my mom said they couldn't afford to buy
commercial formula, and our family doctor assured her that we would be
"just fine" on that homemade concoction he "prescribed". :/
Cee
