<>>There have been several cases on LN recently that surmised that
perhaps
some mothers have blind ducts (never canalized), even though the end buds
may continue to develop and produce milk. Could it be possible that some
moms have some of their ducts patent and others never got canalized??<<

Haagensen has a short chapter on blind ducts from the histology viewpoint
in his famous text, which is a classic. I recommend anyone interested in
the microscopic anatomy of the breast to obtain it from their medical
library or through an interlibrary loan. It is a goldmine of background
anatomical information (and also includes detailed descriptions and
microscopic photos of lactiferous sinuses in the resting breast.)

<Donna Ramsay's latest article on breast anatomy comments that while they
see
many ducts leading towards the nipple and they may see multiple openings
on
the nipple face, not all ducts or nipple pores are patent-- connecting
all
the way through. In fact, one woman had only 4 patent openings through
the
nipple. I remember as I was reading realizing that when we talk about
breast
surgeries and biopsies, a cut into the breast and ductile tissue that may
be
nothing for one woman could be devastating to another, depending upon how
many patent openings she has.
