Hi Chris,
I sure don't have the refs at hand to back up what I said about Hartman's
research.  Our state affiliate had Peter Hartman as the speaker for our
Breastfest (Ohio heard it first!) in the spring before he spoke at ILCA. 
I could have sworn that he said the reason breastfed babies don't have to
increase their intake as they gain and grow is that breastmilk changes to
meet the needs of the baby.  So my interpretation is that breastmilk
reconfigures to meet the baby's needs!  We certainly can't say that about
non-human milk intake as a baby grows--the amount needed increases to
provide sufficient nutrition for a larger body mass.
