We do have increased knowledge on the mechanism of many SIDS deaths

I am thankful for this information! It makes alot of sense. The only thing
I had heard before was that it was decided that tummy sleeping was safer
because more SIDS babies had been found on their tummies. However, I didn't
know if that meant anything, since mothers were told to that BACK sleeping
increased the risk of SIDS. I hate to think of all the times I woke up my
first babies, trying to flip them over on their tummies, when they could
have gone down on their backs much easier, thinking that they were safer on
their tummies!

Has anyone else known of babies who just WOULD NOT sleep on their backs?
Joseph, the first baby I adopted after the advice was changed to back
sleeping, just could not stay asleep on his back! His tummy had to be in
contact with something, or he would startle himself awake. I tried to avoid
having him down flat, when I could. Sometimes, he would sleep sitting up in
his car seat, with blankets tucked around him. I also spent time sleeping
in my recliner, with him in a front pack. Other times, I just had to let
him sleep on his stomach. He is nearly 12 now, and still doesn't like
sleeping on his back. Has anyone else seen babies like that?
