I teach hand expression to most of my clients, just in case. Personally, 
I found hand expressing much more effective than the rental pump I tried 
(Medela Lactina). Several of my clients have used hand expression 
exclusively to maintain supply, but most do better with the pump. We 
Americans love technology...
