Linda,
I saw a mother once who was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma after
repeated treatments for mastitis. Her ultrasound and 2 needle biopsies did
not show cancer definitively. The ultrasound persons report to the doctor said
mastitis. I was the one who had to keep after the mother and doctor to get
this mother to a breast surgeon for a more complete biopsy as it was not
acting like any mastitis I'd ever seen and the hard area of the breast felt
different to me than what I have seen with normal. Your case sounds also highly
suspicious of something more unusual and deserves follow-up asap. Way to
follow your clinical instincts!
