Jennifer,
We are blessed that our pediatricians locally are all seeing breastfed
newborns within a day or two after they leave the hospital. We are
encouraging our family practitioners (who see only a very small percentage
of our babies) to do the same.
One of our Vermont CHIP audits has to do with "risk appropriate follow-up"
and my memory says that is within days for any newborn. I couldn't google up
anything - but if you know anyone at your hospital that works on chart
audits they may be able to tell you about any such initiatives.
Wish I could be of more help - maybe someone working in a pedi office can
comment!
